The origin of pediatric care in Nuevo León

Learn about the history of the first Children's Hospital in Nuevo León

Since 1885, it was stipulated that in the 6th year of the School of Medicine of Nuevo León, the subject of “Children's diseases” was taught.

In 1917, the curriculum included the Pediatric Clinic, which was run by Dr. Eusebio Guajardo Zambrano, who had graduated from this Institution, and completed a postgraduate degree in pediatrics at the University of Texas.

Dr. Eusebio Guajardo held the Directorate of González Hospital on several occasions; In 1921, he was appointed by the President of Mexico to attend as his representative the II International Children's Congress in Brussels, playing a brilliant role.

Dr. Guajardo is considered the great promoter of pediatrics in Nuevo León, participated in various congresses, publishing articles and, above all, his most recognized bibliographic contribution to this branch of medicine, "Councils to Family Mothers", brochure where it refers to various problems of infant feeding.

Thanks to private investment, in 1924 a Pediatric office is opened, annexed to the González Hospital, considered the first Children's Hospital of Nuevo León.
