
Oscar Vidal Gutiérrez, MD, PhD
Director of the School of Medicine and University Hospital of the UANL
Oscar Vidal Gutiérrez was born in Mexico City in 1960. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine at the School of Medicine of the UANL. He specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital “Dr. José Eleuterio González” and later trained in Gynecologic Oncology at the Instituto Nacional de Cancer (INCan), becoming the first physician in Nuevo León certified in this subspecialty. He also holds a PhD in Medicine.
Continuing his academic training, he completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Master’s Degree in Alternative Methods for Conflict Resolution at the School of Law and Criminology of the UANL. He has been a professor at both undergraduate and graduate levels at the School of Medicine and University Hospital of the UANL since 1992. He previously served as Head of the Gynecology Service and is currently Head of the Oncology Service. He has also served as Technical Secretary of the Director’s Office of the School of Medicine and University Hospital, UANL.
He was a member of the Legislative Committee of the Honorable Governing Board and the State Medical Arbitration Commission of Nuevo León. He currently serves as Leader of the Academic Body for the Oncology Service, which is in the process of consolidation. He holds PRODEP Profile recognition and is recertified by the Mexican Council of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He has participated in teaching programs at the specialty, master’s, and doctoral levels, as well as in various research projects.
He was the first to participate in a self-transplantation of the ovary to the forearm using vascular anastomosis. He currently coordinates clinical research protocols in oncology in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies. Notably, he is a Level I National System of Researchers (SNI) recognized by CONACYT, and also holds patents in the pharmaceutical industry. His humility, kindness, and deep passion for teaching are qualities that best define the personality of Dr. Oscar Vidal Gutiérrez.
