DR. MED. ROM\u00c1N GARZA-MERCADO<\/strong>
Emeritus Professor and Founder of the Neurosurgery Service
1930 – 2020<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Surgeon from the Autonomous University of Nuevo Le\u00f3n and Neurosurgeon from the Medical-Branch Hospital, University of Texas, in Galveston, Texas. A grant from the British Council of Cultural Relation, in 1965 he obtained the \u201cFellow\u201d in Neurosurgery from the Institute of Neurology, Queen's Square Hospital, in London, England; in 1972 he took the Course of Microneurosurgery at the Kantonsspital University Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, and in 1992, the I Course of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Surgical Education, of the American College of Surgeons, at UANL.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


He has received distinctions, such as the "Recognition of Civic Merit and Presea Estado de Nuevo Le\u00f3n" in the area of Scientific Research by the Government of the State of Nuevo Le\u00f3n; in 2000 the Mexican Academy of Surgery appointed him Emeritus Academician, and in 2001, the UANL School of Medicine awarded him the Diploma of Academic Excellence.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery awarded him, in various congresses, during the years 1999 and 2003, the medals "Pioneer of Mexican Neurosurgery", "Pioneer of Neurosurgery in the State of Nuevo Le\u00f3n" and the "Guest of Honor" .<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


He is the author of five book chapters and 61 scientific articles published in specialized national and international journals.
He has been deputy director of the University Hospital; deputy director of the Faculty of Medicine of the UANL; director of the Municipal Green Cross in Monterrey; Head of the Department of Surgical Specialties and head of the Neurosurgery Service of the ISSTE Regional Hospital.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
