Inauguration of the University Center for Neurosurgical Diseases at the University Hospital

This space of our University Hospital will, from now on, bear the name of Dr. Román Garza Mercado, founder in life of the Neurosurgery Service

On the morning of this Tuesday, October 18, 2022, authorities, professors, students and workers of our Institution met at the Neurosurgery Service located in the External Consultation of the University Hospital “Dr. José Eleuterio González”, to be part of the inauguration of the University Center for Neurosurgical Diseases “Dr. Román Garza Mercado”, two years after the departure of the founder and former-chief of this clinical service.

In addition to relatives of the former-emeritus professor of our School of Medicine, the authorities present at the inaugural ribbon cutting of this place were:

  • Edelmiro Pérez Rodríguez, DM; Principal of the School of Medicine and University Hospital "Dr. José Eleuterio González"
  • Oscar Vidal Gutiérrez, DM; Elected Principal of the School of Medicine and University Hospital “Dr. José Eleuterio González"
  • Ángel Raymundo Martínez Ponce de León, DM; Chief of the Neurosurgery Service
  • Guillermo Jacobo Baca, DM; Secretary of Student-Affairs of the School of Medicine

After directing a few words in the form of a bibliographic sketch of the life and work of Dr. Román Garza Mercado; for his son, Roberto Alan Garza Leonard, MPA; as well as his coworker, Dagoberto Tamez Montes, DM; Professor of the Neurosurgery Service, persons proceeded to take a tour of some of the remodeled areas of the Neurosurgery Service that work in benefit of care, research and teaching through the quality and innovation with state-of-the-art technology and spaces vanguard for the practice of neurosurgery, radiosurgery and neurological endovascular therapy by students and professors, making it the only one of its kind in the entire northeast of the country.
