Opening of the new areas of Mental Health, Shock Trauma Emergencies and Gynecology and Obstetrics

The University Hospital expands in infrastructure and equipment of tertiary level for medical-clinical care, research and learning

During the morning of this Tuesday, November 1, 2022, it was held at our University Hospital "Dr. José Eleuterio González", the inauguration of three new areas that give way to the expansion of first, second and third level hospital assistance services in the northeast region of Mexico, which are focused on the areas of treatment and medicine of psychiatric, emergencies, maternal fetal and reproductive. These areas are the following:

  • University Center for Mental Health: Expansion and remodeling of the previous Psychiatry Unit.
  • Shock Trauma Emergency Unit: Built and connected by a tunnel in front of the former Shock Trauma Unit.
  • University Center of Gynecology and Obstetrics: Built on the 4th floor of the Eugenio Clariond Garza building.

Before starting the inaugural tour of the three new units, undergraduate and postgraduate students, professors, chiefs of departments and services, workers and guests gathered in the Psychiatry Auditorium to present the infrastructure and the work carried out. We also had the presence of the following state and university authorities:

  • Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, PhD; Governor of the State of Nuevo León
  • Mariana Rodríguez Cantú, BScPsy; Titular of the Office Amar a Nuevo León
  • Alma Rosa Marroquín Escamilla, DM; Health Secretary of the State of Nuevo León
  • Santos Guzmán López, DM; Rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
  • Edelmiro Pérez Rodríguez, DM; Principal of the School of Medicine and University Hospital "Dr. José Eleuterio González"
  • Dr. Stefan Mauricio Fernández Zambrano; Chief of the Psychiatry Department
  • Marco Antonio Hernández Guedea, DM; Chief of the Emergencies Department
  • Abel Guzmán López, DM; Chief of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department
  • University Center for Mental Health

At the beginning of the agenda, Edelmiro Pérez Rodríguez, DM; indicated: “Today we inaugurate three new areas: A University Center of Mental Health that has 3 floors of 900mts², the first floor has 28 consulting rooms and the next 2 floors have 24 internment beds; the Emergencies area is an area that will expand what we have to 200%, which will be located in a 4-story building; We also have the University Center for Gynecology and Obstetrics that has a space of 2000mts² and will focus primarily on the areas of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Reproductive Medicine”

“The University Hospital, historically, has been a fundamental pillar in the State. They have worked in different axes, the academy is one of them, where they have trained great health professionals [...] They have also made an effort to grow research and the generation of new knowledge that makes us different because we can identify the characteristics of our citizens and the most effective interventions”, mentioned Alma Rosa Marroquín Escamilla, DM.

  • Shock Trauma Emergency Unit

Mentioning feeling honored to be among the guests at the opening event, Santos Guzmán López, DM; affirmed: “Today we have the opportunity to launch these three areas that prove that the University Hospital is modernizing and expanding to serve the entire society. Together, the new spaces add up to more than 11,700mts², which will be available to the entire society that requires medical care in a timely manner and that responds with quality and respect to the needs of the patient”

For his part, Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, PhD; commented that he was happy to accompany Dr. Santos and Dr. Edelmiro to inaugurate these three important areas of the University Hospital because for him, this is a reflection of the message that it wants to give Nuevo León in the matter of health safety.

It is important to note that within these new areas there are waiting rooms, consulting rooms, internment cubicles, areas of diagnostic, observation, exploration, recovery, intensive and palliative care, nursing stations, laboratories and operating rooms with top-level technology equipment that stands out not only in the region otherwise at the national level.
