COVID-19: Healthy distance

Healthy distance slows the spread of COVID-19

Healthy distance, or social distancing, means keeping a distance between yourself and other people who don't live together. Currently there is no consensus on the appropriate distance to avoid more infections, however the WHO recommends at least one meter, the CDC recommends at least 1.8 meters and the Government of Mexico recommends at least 1.5 meters. Regardless of this, the further away we are from other people, the lower the risk of contagion if we are around someone who is contagious.

Healthy distance should always be practiced when being with people with whom we do not live, and regardless of whether we are in a closed or open place. Healthy distance is not necessary to practice with the people you live with, unless someone suspects that they may have COVID-19 or it is already confirmed that they do have the disease.

It is very important to emphasize that the use of masks under no circumstances replaces this practice. Remember to always keep that healthy distance. And if you don't have a rule, remember this simple tip: stay two arms' distance from another person.

Here are other tips to keep a healthy distance:

  • Plan your outings before leaving the house or meeting other people.
  • Limit the number of times you leave the house.
  • If you want to meet people, choose to do it virtually.
  • If you go to crowded places, try to keep away from people and always wear a mask.
  • If you live with other people and they suspect or know that someone has COVID-19, do not live with that person until they recover.
  • You can go outside for outdoor activities like running or walking, just remember not to get close to others.
